Nail polish used in nail salons contains poisonous chemicals which will harm your health.

According to a California based scientist the labeling present on the nail polish not always reflect its ingredients. With a team of 25 people a test has been carried out, different nail polishes from different manufacturers has been tested. After sending them to lab test the team found that labeling is not reflecting its ingredients. Surprisingly they found 3 such poisonous chemicals which can effects birth in pregnant women.
Here are 3 notable chemicals.
- Formaldehyde (used as a harder in nail polish) – US department of Health and Human Services named it to be human carcinogen.
- Dibutyl phthalate (makes nail polish last longer) – linked to birth defects. (source)
- Toluene (helps nail paint to go smoothly) – effects nervous system. (source)
In a study carried out by California team, it was found few nail polishes free from these poisonous chemicals.

So what’s the way to stay away from these chemicals?
In our previous post we always suggested to stay away from nail polish. Because you can’t trust labels and you can’t carry out testing for every product out in the market.
Rebecca Sutton, PhD (senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group) says that other products such as cleaning supplies also contain chemicals. Her advice to consumers is to visit nail salon less frequently.
